Message from the Pastor

Dear Eastminster Family,                                                                                                                                                                                                      March 19, 2020 E-News

Psalm 46 begins, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;”…And the final two verses read:  “Be still, and know that I am God!  I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.”  11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.”

Good gracious things have changed in a hurry!  But, rest assured, God is still God.  Even as each of you is adjusting and adapting, so is our church staff.  We’re adapting to find ways we can gather for worship, study, prayer and fellowship, and we’re adjusting to find ways to help you all reach out to one another.

Worship, with the Lord’s Supper, will happen Sunday via livestream at 9:00a and 11:15a (special children’s message from 11:00a-11:10a).  That’s right, we’ll celebrate the Lord’s Supper.  In preparation, please prepare your hearts and have a portion of bread and a small amount of juice, water, or wine for each person in your household when you sit down for worship Sunday.  After the Proclamation of the Word, prayer, and the words of Institution, we’ll ask God to be present with us in the breaking of bread.  Join us…and encourage a friend or family member to join us as well.

On-Line Opportunities:  Two Bible Studies, Wednesday morning Chapel for children, Reading time for elementary children (tonight at 6:30p), and a Daily Noontime Prayer service will all be up and running by tomorrow at noon (tune-in!). By next week, we’ll soon have several online fitness classes as well as multiple resources for families with children.  The Daily Noontime Prayer service will generally be a 10-12-minute service of Scripture and Prayer, while occasionally also offering additional resources/ teaching. Small Group leaders, watch your email for instructions video conferencing early next week.

Buddy System and Care Line: Today and tomorrow, 160 of you are being contacted about serving as “Shepherds” to facilitate linking 5-6 family units in your respective neighborhoods to support and check on one another.  Everyone reading this should receive an email within a few days that will have the name, address and contact info for 4-5 others in your neighborhood.  Please reach out to the others in your group, just to touch base or to help as you are able.  Also, our homepage will include a new “Quick Link” labeled “Care Line.”  If you are willing to assist others (go shopping, deliver food, etc), OR if you would benefit from assistance, please click on the Care Line link to let us know what you need or how you can help.  Contact [email protected] with questions.

With regard to Meals, we’re trying to determine interest in a Tuesday & Thursday Drive-through/Pick-up Meal Service from Regina’s Kitchen.  With the help of member volunteers, we’d also arrange home delivery for people who, for health reasons, shouldn’t be out.  To help us gauge interest, please register your interest by emailing [email protected]  if you’d likely use this at least once each week.

Those are a few things I wanted to get on your radar today.  Please watch for further details both by email and on our website as we change it to accommodate and best communicate new opportunities and resources that will help us all be the people God has for us to be during this time.

Love in Christ,

Brad
