Position Summary

The assistant teacher supports the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing learning environment for preschool-aged children. This position assists with daily classroom activities, promotes children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual development, and helps foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing age-appropriate educational and developmental activities.
  • Supervise children during classroom instruction, playtime, meals, rest periods, and outdoor activities.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, including setting up learning materials and activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all day school policies, health and safety regulations, and DSS licensing requirements.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with parents, guardians, and fellow staff members.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, or church setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate practices.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the church and preschool.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and meet DSS licensing requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and actively engage with children throughout the day.

Work Schedule

This position is available as either:

  • Part-time: Monday through Friday, 12:00pm – 5:30pm
  • Full-time: Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm
