Position Summary
The assistant teacher supports the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing learning environment for preschool-aged children. This position assists with daily classroom activities, promotes children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual development, and helps foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing age-appropriate educational and developmental activities.
- Supervise children during classroom instruction, playtime, meals, rest periods, and outdoor activities.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
- Assist with classroom preparation, including setting up learning materials and activities.
- Ensure compliance with all day school policies, health and safety regulations, and DSS licensing requirements.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with parents, guardians, and fellow staff members.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, or church setting preferred.
- Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the church and preschool.
- Ability to pass required background checks and meet DSS licensing requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and actively engage with children throughout the day.
Work Schedule
This position is available as either:
- Part-time: Monday through Friday, 12:00pm – 5:30pm
- Full-time: Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm
Eastminster Day School, a ministry of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, is seeking substitute teachers. This individual will be responsible for providing appropriate physical, emotional, spiritual, and developmental opportunities for each child, in collaboration with lead teacher. This individual will work with young children anywhere from age 6-weeks to 10-years-old. The hours are flexible, and starting pay is $13/hour.
