God Comforts Us So We Can Comfort Others

Posted in

Scripture:  “…[God] comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.” – 2 Corinthians 1:4-5

As I was reading Phillip Yancey’s Grace Notes devotional book, it flitted through my mind that some of his points would make a nice devotional for our church.  I, then, began to think more about how our church represents “the body of Christ” to the world. The very next day, Pastor Lynn’s on-line devotional kept speaking to me, as if saying, “Share this….”

Did you know that “the body of Christ” is mentioned more than 30 times in the New Testament?  Apostle Paul and others call it “the church.”  In Paradise Lost,* John Milton said, “What if the earth be but a shadow of heaven?”  If that is the case, how does our “Body of Christ,” our church, the “shadow of heaven,” look to the world?

We are called to represent Christ, especially to those in need.  Are we God’s words, hands, and feet to them?

Let’s remember that as scripture tells us, God comforts us so that we can comfort others around us.  What a difference we can make!

Prayer:  Lord, help us to listen to words from You and do your work. Amen.
