Listen for Wisdom
Posted in Wisdom
Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.” Proverbs 8:34
EXCERPT FROM EUGENE PETERSON’S AS KINGFISHERS CATCH FIRE: “The Holy Spirit is God moving in us to live God’s life. In Proverbs this Holy Spirit is given a name: ‘Lady Wisdom.’” (p. 196)
Chapter 8 of Proverbs is labeled Wisdom’s Call in the Bible I am reading. Now, I have never thought of myself as being wise, but, a few weeks ago, a friend thanked me for my wisdom. My first thought was “wisdom – me?” — but we all have wisdom. From university presidents to janitors to knuckleheads like me, we are blessed. Blessed by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Our wisdom (as does everything else) comes from God. I pray we will listen to him. Wait at his doorway. In my mind this means reading the Bible every day, worshiping, praying, giving, serving. Part of verse 17 of Proverbs 8 says, “those who seek me find me.” May we continually seek the One who sustains us.
Prayer. Dear God, we ask for your blessing on our lives. Help us to listen for your word so that we may believe in you. AMEN.
