Plans
Posted in Faithfulness
The Spirit, not content to flit around on the surface, dives into the depths of God, and brings out what God planned all along. Who ever knows what you’re thinking and planning except you yourself? The same with God—except that He not only knows what He’s thinking, but He lets us in on it. God offers a full report on the gifts of life and salvation that He is giving us. We don’t have to rely on the world’s guesses and opinions. 1 Corinthians 2: 10-13 (MSG)
We are planners. We collect information and plan for everything ahead: family, education, work, recreation, financial security, even for holidays like the one now near. I suggest that there is nothing wrong with our planning until the chatter from all this information interferes with our ability to hear God’s plan for each of our lives.
I am thankful that God repeatedly signals to us his plans for us. Sometimes, we may not recognize the signs God sends us. His plans may be countercultural and contrary to our own. Fortunately, God isn’t dependent on us to execute his plan.
Each of us can look back and identify God’s signs along our path in life in large and small examples. What a beautiful realization when we look back at a trail of unexpected twists or happenings and recognize God’s work. Often, we see something positive bloom from something negative. It is reassuring to be reminded that God remains sovereign, despite our well-intended plans.
Prayer: God, thank You for sharing your plans for our lives. In our distraction, we may only capture glimpses of your work, but when we do, it is beautiful! You have provided the tools we need: prayer to focus and draw near; quiet space to listen and hear; trust for your plan; and yielding our own plans. We are thankful! Amen.
