Thankful for the Prayers and Lessons
Posted in Gratitude/Thankfulness
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” John 14:6
Thankfulness. When deliberating about this, I think I am most thankful that I was born into a family of Christian believers who saw that I was at church and Sunday School and encouraged to participate in the various activities that were offered. I also believe in the power of prayer and am thankful that the many prayers that were said for me by my family, friends, and people that I may not know have had an impact on my life that only God knows. Believe me, I needed those prayers!
Back in the day, as they say, when in my early teens, I was a fan of hillbilly music, the genre today known as Country Music. My favorite singer was Hank Williams, Sr. Recently I asked Ms. Alexa Amazon to play Hank Williams Sr., shuffle, and the first song, to my amazement, was not “Your Cheating Heart” or “Kaliga” or “Lovesick Blues.” It was “Calling You,” which goes like this:
“Calling you, calling you
Can’t you hear the blessed Savior calling you?
He will take you by the hand, lead you to that promised land.
Can’t you hear the blessed Savior calling you?”*
This prompted me to acknowledge that many times in my life I might just as well have been deaf, blind, and dumb. All I was concerned about was me. This is when I needed those prayers and the lessons that were shared by so many mentors, from Scout leaders to Sunday school teachers and ministers. Thank you to all of them.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we can’t buy a morning break, we can’t buy a Raven singing. You have told us that you love a cheerful giver and that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Please help us to freely give what we can of our time, talents, and resources and guide us to be those workers who are willing to witness to the unchurched and the non-believers who need to know the joy of the love of Christ, in His name we pray. He is risen, He is risen indeed! Amen.
